Merry Christmas – A message from the Principal
It’s been a long and fast paced first term for Pegasus Academy, with lots of new initiatives that are really starting to show an impact on improving our school for the young people. Year 11 are leading the way with fantastic attendance at after school ‘Upgrade’ sessions, increased use of our online learning platforms including nearly 4000 streams on GCSEPod and engagement in ‘Elevate’ sessions at Dudley College. The vast majority are now well on their way to successfully securing college places for next year, fully supported by Mrs Turton. It was also pleasing to see that attendance at our Year 11 parents evening was over 70%.
Our drive on collaborative learning is also making a dramatic change to the way we teach. There is still a lot to do but we are seeing students taking ownership of their own learning which will ultimately benefit them in the future. I would like to thank all teaching staff for the work they have put into planning new styles of lessons and sharing good practice across all our Trust schools. We know we are moving in the right direction as highlighted by our Ofsted visit earlier in the term.
Year 7 have settled into life at Pegasus extremely well underpinned by ‘Literacy for Life’. It has been a pleasure to see them develop and some of the fantastic work produced through their ‘Big Write’ activities. I have also been impressed with the effort shown in their fairy-tale castle homework project. In our true work hard, play-hard spirit, it was fantastic to celebrate the hard work of both Years 7 and 8 at our recent Christmas disco.
We continue our core value of ‘Rewarding Effort’ with our very first whole school rewards assembly at the end of this term. Congratulations to all students who have received rewards for number of merits they have achieved this term including our Bronze award winners with over 100 merits each. Equally important is attendance. Every day counts and it is no surprise that students with 95% attendance and above achieve at least one grade higher than students with attendance below 90%. Once again well done to all students who have received a prize for outstanding attendance this term.
Our buildings have also undergone a significant amount of improvement and this will continue into the new year with the renovation of the ground and first floors of A Block. We have also seen investment into our ICT facilities and computer networks.
Finally, we have had lot of visitors to the Academy this term including two visits by Ofsted. All have made positive comments about the direction the Academy is moving in. We can’t do this without the support of parents/carers and I would like to personally take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you have shown us. Can I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Can I take this opportunity to remind you that students return to the Academy on January 8th at the normal time ready for an 8:40am start.
