Hospitality and Catering
GCSE Hospitality and Catering is an exciting and creative course which focuses on practical cooking skills to ensure students develop a thorough understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of food materials. At its heart, this qualification focuses on nurturing students’ practical cookery skills to give them a strong understanding of nutrition.

How will I be assessed?
Paper 1 – written exam: 50% of GCSE. Multiple choice questions (20 marks)
Five questions each with a number of sub questions (80 marks)
Non Examined Assessment- 50% of GCSE
NEA Task 1: Food Investigation (30 marks) 1,500 – 2,000 word essay.
NEA Task 2: Food preparation assessment (70 marks)
Written portfolio and practical exam
What can I do after I’ve completed the course?
GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition will equip you to go on to further study. After taking this course, you could embark on AS or A-level study, begin an apprenticeship or perhaps begin employment in the catering or food industries. You’ll also have the knowledge and skills to feed yourself (and others) affordably and nutritiously for life.
