1st February 2023 - Updated Information
You may be aware from media coverage that the teachers’ union, NEU, have declared strike action over several upcoming dates, the first of which will take place on 1st February. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our academy. Other teaching unions have directed their members not to cover lessons of other teachers who are on strike.
We are getting in touch to give you as much notice as possible that learning will be disrupted on 1st February. It has been our intention for our academy to remain open as far as possible but unfortunately based on current estimated staffing levels we will have to close to a number of year groups.
As we are unable to staff a full timetable for all years safely, we have taken the decision to close for learners in Years 7-10. Due to upcoming GCSE examinations, WE WILL BE OPEN for all Year 11 learners who should arrive at the academy at the normal time and in full academy uniform. Where a normal Year 11 classroom teacher is unavailable, learners will be involved in study skills sessions lead by th academy's senior leadership team.
We are sorry about the disruption to you and to your child’s education. We understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect. Our academy remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our learners and delivering high-quality teaching.
We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and we will inform you of any changes to the arrangements, based upon expected staffing levels as soon as possible via Weduc, social media and on our website. Due to the ever-changing situation this may change as late as Tuesday 31st January.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
Yours faithfully
Mr AP Landers
